What is Atropine?
Atropine is an antimuscarinic medication used in ACLS to treat Bradycardia by reversing cholinergic-mediated slowing of the heart rate.
Atropine Indications
- Symptomatic Bradycardia (first choice)
- May be beneficial to treat AV nodal block
- Cardiac Arrest
Atropine Dosage
- 0.5 mg via IV (may be repeated every 3 – 5 minutes)
- Maximum dose = 3 mg
Atropine Precautions/Side Notes
- Dosage lower than 0.5 mg may cause paradoxical bradycardia
