Atropine

What is Atropine?

Atropine is an antimuscarinic medication used in ACLS to treat Bradycardia by reversing cholinergic-mediated slowing of the heart rate.

Atropine Indications

  • Symptomatic Bradycardia (first choice)
  • May be beneficial to treat AV nodal block
  • Cardiac Arrest

Atropine Dosage

  • 0.5 mg via IV (may be repeated every 3 – 5 minutes)
  • Maximum dose = 3 mg

Atropine Precautions/Side Notes

  • Dosage lower than 0.5 mg may cause paradoxical bradycardia
